Seminar description

This seminar continues the journey begun in The Age of Deep Learning: Automated Creativity or Tools for Extending Minds?, building upon the theoretical foundations explored in the Winter Semester 2024/25. Shifting from theory to practice, The Age of Deep Learning II adopts a hands-on, studio-style approach, encouraging students to engage creatively with artificial intelligence technologies. Students will apply their understanding of AI and its artistic potential to develop original creative projects. Participants will conceptualise and produce artworks that leverage AI tools and methodologies, whether working individually or collaboratively. This practical focus is enriched by opportunities for peer and instructor feedback, as well as guidance on technical and artistic implementation.

The seminar culminates in the presentation of these projects at the Rundgang event. In addition, the seminar may include an excursion to deepen further their understanding of AI’s role in contemporary culture and artistic practice.

This seminar not only equips students with technical and conceptual skills but also fosters creativity and critical reflection on AI's transformative impact. By the end of the course, participants will have gained hands-on experience in bridging technology and art, contributing original works to the ongoing discourse on AI’s role in shaping contemporary culture.
