„Wald mit feldern II “ (engl.: „forest with fields“) is an interactive sound environment that invites the visitors to walk around, interact and play with the interfaces. Five tubes are suspended in a shaded room, randomly spread over the area. They are surrounded by electromagnetic fields generated by digital theremins, which can be influenced by the movement of the visitors. The signals generated by this interference are affecting a connected audio-system and the evolving sounds are re-projected into the room. The sound concept is a modular audio setup. It is based on a combination of software samplers with looped audio samples and experimental software synthesizers developed by the artist. Samples as well as sounds created by the synths are affected by diverse interposed audio modulators reacting on the incoming MIDI signals. The environment looks like a ""reduced"" electronic forest, that opens up the space for an individual perception and experience. The realisation with five aluminium-tubes can be described as spatial and abstract sample of the natural reference, a tree trunk. Analogue to the behaviour in a natural environment, the visitors are animated to walk around, listen and watch. Through this they are automatically guided to the element of interaction. The interplay of electronic and natural aspects creates a hybrid space with diverse references. The installation is conceived as an interactive and spatial instrument. It can be filled with different atmospheres depending on the integrated sound material.
