The Japanese Cultural Institute in Cologne is continuing its project of dialogue exhibitions, in which works by one Japanese and one German artist are shown. In their first joint exhibition, Suse Itzel and Mayuko Kudo refer directly to the premises of the Japanese Cultural Institute. The exhibition space will be changed and expanded with real installations and virtual extensions. Using two different approaches, the artists interweave the exhibition space and the building of the Japanese Cultural Institute with elements from the premises of their own past. As each of the others provides photographs of their personal spaces from childhood and youth, they mix what is their own with what is foreign.
