Christian Sievers' work is concerned with the changing relationship of artwork and audience against the background of social developments brought on by digitization and new technologies. His artistic work explores to what extent concepts such as audience participation and agency must be reassessed.
One of his works is "
Hop 3". In this project, 200 advertising columns and posters in public space established a connection to a mobile phone shown in an exhibition space. This phone was used to contact a high-ranking NSA whistleblower. A call to the phone number on the poster can be shown to lead to immediate and permanent monitoring of your phone; a text explains why you should still call. "Hop 3" is now part of the collection of ZKM Karlsruhe.
In 2018 his last solo exhibition to date, entitled "
Geschlossene Gesellschaft", opened at the Moltkerei Werkstatt in Cologne.
Christian Sievers studied sculpture and performance at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig and at the Royal College of Art in London. Since 2011 he is an Assistant Professor for multimedia and performance. From 2018 to 2020 he was Prorector for Teaching and Academic Studies at KHM Cologne.
