Seminar description

Imperialist projects, authoritarian regimes, colonial legacies, warfare, policies of exclusion affect our personal and collective bodies displacing and reconfiguring them. Stories and rituals are remapping post-socialist grammar, colonial violence in the North-, West- and Central Asia and the realities it has created.

What stories do we want to tell and why? To whom? What type of connections existed and can be imagined between art and politics? What approaches can artist take towards different struggles within interconnected and disconnected geographies? A space for stories that are untold and not shared, daily practices that create a potential for change where one still can hope for its materialization. How artists can be situated in local histories that are not in line with expected narratives and produce contexts that are not giving in to the politics of representation.

“on the other side of the Rhine. Part II” is a continuation of the seminar that was organised by a group of students with a so-called post-socialist background. This semester we keep on with our research on mentioned topics, walks on another side of the Rhine, sharing food and hosting guests.
