EN:
This seminar explores the fundamentals and workflows of computer-generated image synthesis. The principles of representation in three-dimensional space and the appropriate tools for this purpose will be introduced, with a particular focus on a broad range of applications that are both suitable and necessary for the media arts. While we theoretically explore the fundamentals of the 3D workflow, we will practically create three-dimensional geometric objects using various modeling techniques. These will then be integrated into a virtual environment. This is followed by an introduction to working with materials, lighting, and animation. We view this approach and the teaching of traditional and procedural modeling and animation techniques, in light of Eric Freedman’s work on procedural literacy, as a prerequisite for working with and engaging in so-called AI in Gaming and 3D. Previous knowledge of 3D software is useful, but not required.
