In this theory seminar, we will explore realism as a cinematic style in fictional films and read some of the seminal theoretical texts by Bazin, Kracauer and others. Without claiming to provide a systematic account of all manifestations of cinematic realism, we will develop a framework for speculating on the future of cinematic realism in the age of Large Language Models and AI-generated imagery.
