We have read a lot about artificial intelligence in the news, but in our KHM reality, we might have had, until now, little to do with AI in filmmaking. In the seminar "Artificial Intelligence and Film", we will look at the wide variety of AI applications in film (pre-)production, screenwriting, image generation and other aspects of AI in the film industry. We will meet with producers, filmmakers and broadcasters to ask how they implement AI, inquire into the advantages and limitations they encounter using these tools, and how they approach future developments in AI. Besides that, we will explore whether AI is indeed artificial and/or intelligent, what the legal and moral implications are, and how we can operate, experiment with and subvert this relatively new tool. Participation in the IFFF workshop with Betty Schiel on the topic "Anger in film" in the KHM auditorium on 19 April from 11:00 -15:00 and exclusive talks with the board of trustees.

Nachdem wir „Saint Omer“ von Alice Diop (Internationale Filmfestspiele von Venedig 2022, u.a. Großen Preis der Jury) und „Anatomy of a Fall“ von Justine Trier (Goldene Palme Filmfestspiele in Cannes, Europäischer Filmpreis 2023 ) gesehen haben, hatten wir großen Gesprächsbedarf. Aus welcher Perspektive erzählt das audiovisuelle Werk, in welchem historischen Kontext ist es zu sehen? Verändert sich der Gerechtigkeitsbegriff über die Jahre? Wie kann ein Film Gerechtigkeit abbilden? Wie steht der westliche Rechtskreis in Spannung zu anderen Rechtskreisen? Was ist Recht überhaupt? In welchem Verhältnis stehen Recht und Gerechtigkeit zueinander? Und, was ist Moral? Gerichtsfilme sind Filme, deren Handlungsstrang schwerpunktmäßig das Geschehen vor Gericht darstellen. Oft geht es nicht nur um bewegende Plädoyers, schockierende Wendungen und einen klaren Konflikt zwischen Gut und Böse. Nicht selten werden gesellschaftlich relevante Themen behandelt oder das Rechtssystem selbst hinterfragt. Menschen werden beurteilt, verurteilt, freigesprochen. Opfer können zu Täter*innen werden. Immer geht es um Recht, Sühne, Gerechtigkeit und Moral. Um (Ver)schweigen, Lügen, um Verweigern und Gestehen. Um eine bestimmte Sprache. Ob Spielfilm, Dokumentarfilm, Serie oder Essay, gemeinsam möchten wir mit euch im Theorieseminar „Der Gerichtsfilm - Annäherung an ein Genre“ die filmästhetischen und narrativen Merkmale analysieren und die gesellschaftlichen Implikationen anhand von (rechts-)philosophischen und filmtheoretischen Texten untersuchen. After watching "Saint Omer" by Alice Diop (Venice International Film Festival 2022, Grand Jury Prize, among others) and "Anatomy of a Fall" by Justine Trier (Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, European Film Award 2023 ), we had a great need to talk. From which perspective is the film told, and in which historical context should it be seen? Does the concept of justice change over the years? How can a film depict justice? How is the Western legal system in tension with other legal systems? What is justice anyway? What is the relationship between law and justice? And what is morality? Courtroom movies are films whose storylines focus on what happens in court. It is often not just about touching pleadings, shocking twists and turns and a clear conflict between good and evil. It is not uncommon for socially relevant topics to be addressed or for the legal system itself to be scrutinized. People are judged, convicted and acquitted. Victims can become perpetrators. It is always about law, atonement, justice and morality. About silence, lies, denial and confession. About a certain language. Be it a feature film, documentary, series or essay, we would like to analyze the film aesthetic and narrative characteristics together with you in the theory seminar "The Courtroom Film - Approaching a Genre" and examine the social implications using (legal) philosophical and film theory texts.
