When will YOU make a statement?

On November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and the following "Orange Days", student Sonia Leliukh, the Animation Department and the Equality Department of the KHM will draw attention to the issue. In doing so, they are participating in the Cologne Orange Days action alliance, which is committed to ensuring that women and girls can live free of violence!

Violence against women* and girls* is a structural problem in our society. It starts with misogynistic language, sexist jokes and insults. The violence ranges from sexual assault and rape, violence in marriage and partnership, stalking, human trafficking, genital mutilation to femicide, the killing of women because of their gender.

In 2020, 359 women were victims of attempted murder or manslaughter in Germany alone, 139 women were killed by their (ex)partners, 148,031 women were victims of couple violence according to BKAs statistics.

The 2021 figures will be published by the BKA on Nov. 25, 2022.

The UN's Orange The World campaign has been raising awareness of violence since 1991, from International Day to End Violence against Women on November 25 to December 10, Human Rights Day. It has been part of the UN Secretary-General's "UNiTE to End Violence against Women" campaign, run by UN Women, since 2008. The color orange stands for ending gender-based violence.

The background of Nov. 25 is the day of the murder of three female political activists from the Dominican Republic in 1960, which gave rise to the "16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence."
