As part of the joint lecture series organized by GeStik and KHM titled “Connections – On Bonds and Encouragement,” we are screening the feature film Born in Flames.
Born in Flames is set in the future—in an America ten years after a revolution that supposedly transformed the country into a social democratic utopia. But in reality, racism, sexism, and economic inequality are as rampant as ever.Led by Black, lesbian workers, a radical group decides to fight back.
A loud, clear, and uncompromisingly queer call to action, Lizzie Borden’s explosive post-punk provocation is a DIY fantasy of feminist rebellion.Told through a furiously fragmented, fast-paced montage of television news, pirate radio broadcasts, agitprop, and protests filmed guerrilla-style on the streets of New York City, this cinematic feminist vision of the future is both an important document of its time as well as radically ahead of it.
