Seminar description

„Let’s face it. We’re undone by each other. And if we’re not, we’re missing something.“ (Judith Butler)

„If the notion of fascization is meaningful, it is in giving us something in common: we all have the potential to become fascisized and, at least in part, we all already have been. The concept of fascization allows for no more us and them; there is only us.“ (Pierre Zaoui)

Questions regarding the subject of feminism have kept generations of feminists busy. Queer theory and most current transfeminisms do both reject these questions, and have been viciously attacked for this refusal. With their anti-identitarian and/or deconstructivist approaches, they are more interested in practices of de-individualization and de/subjectification, or in creating transversal coalitions of struggle that are not grounded in fixed identities.

Current struggles against fascization and micro-fascisms need to understand how subjectification, de-subjectification or de-individualization works and how being undone by each other can be part of resistant practices. We’re going to read theories of de/subjectification and connect them to anti-fascist and anti-fascization practices.
