Foucault– Reading Together

The focus of this academic block is on Foucault’s thought, specifically on his ideas about art and aesthetics. Throughout the course of the seminar, we will study Foucault’s lecture notes, interviews and his “Aesthetics, Method, and Epistemology: Essential Works of Foucault 1954-1984”, which critically analyse the functions of the artwork, both in the context of the art world and within wider philosophical and political contexts. The class aims to familiarize with Foucault’s thought, develop students’ analytical skills, strengthen their critical capacities and introduce aesthetic strategies optimal for expressing the desired artistic content, not least, pertinent for both art/cinema and culture at large.
