Archives tend to be dead rooms. Files are waiting to be forgotten behind scrolling lists and endless directories. To develop and design a music archive for the legendary club EGO in Dusseldorf / Germany - a room of sounds and feelings, creativity and experiments, images and ideas – asked for a different approach. A living interface, where icons communicate with each other, self-represent by contact - this seemed the right approach. Try to involve the user on the surface of the archive to make him explore the depth. So the interface became less a graphic but a programming task. All 47 Live-Acts at EGO inbetween october 1998 til august 2000 were recorded. No edits or overdubs were made to the recordings. The DVD contains more than 40 hours of electronic music by the most influent artists in experimental electronica from all over the world. The OCE TM application (Organized Chaos Engine) by Tilman Reiff was the initial base for the interface. Thanks to his creative programming to adapt OCE TM, the archive „looks“ and works like it is presented on the DVD-ROM. The entire archive could easily be modified for use on the internet with images and mp3-files loaded on demand. In Summer 2008, there was a plan to put the archive online as a unique archive in live recordings of experimental electronic music.
