Archive Effect

Archive Effect (2013) is an artistic urban intervention that deals with and reflects on vacancy as an indication of economical, urban, cultural political and social misbalance. These vacant spaces serve as a locus of bygone cultural institutions, most of them are initiatives conceived by and for artists and creative workers. By archiving these initiatives and thereby generating an archive effect of ‘the lost’, our intervention points to the impact of social changes with the aim to create a self-emerging discussion forum bringing together citizens, architects, artists and members of cultural institutions. After all, An archive calls into question the coming of future rather than the mere documentation of the past, and as such bears promise and responsibility for the future, as Derrida maintains of archives. It was performed in Lisbon at the Lisbon Architecture Triennale and in Bochum at Searching for White Cube group exhibition.
