“Saturn Return” is shot and performed entirely by a two-women-team (Ale Bachlechner and Olivia Platzer) in Tepoztlán, Mexico. Standing on an exposed plateau in the middle of the woods of Morelos, they address their audience directly in the manner of a spiritual self-help video. That speech is intercut with segments where they reenact the most emotional scenes of their own private lives as illustrating examples. The phenomenon they refer to is the basic esoteric concept that different phases of human life are connected to planetary motion. In four different chapters Ale and Olivia take on the roles of themselves, their (ex-)lovers and rivals and stage dramatic break-ups, moments of goodbye and moral confrontations, partially using the structures and narratives of soap opera. With ever changing costumes and locations they confuse the notion of consistent gender roles in those relationship dramas.
