East Berlin, 1987, and the city is preparing for its 750th anniversary celebrations. 10-year-old Kati lives with her brother Matthias and her mother in a council flat. After being persuaded to take part in a dancing competition at school, she practises in the corridors of the high-rise building with classmate Alina. But they still desperately need the right music: “Surrender” by Jennifer Rush, a hit from the West.
