“Elif's Boys” tells the story of Kazim, Veysel and Feryat Abaci. In 1969, grandfather Veysel and his wife Elif migrated from Turkey to Germany as so-called „Gastarbeiter“ (guest workers). Over the course of the years they brought over their five children, who they had left behind in their home village with relatives, to join them. With their hard-earned life savings, and their health badly affected by work in an asbestos factory, they decided to return to Turkey in 1996, while their grown-up children stayed in Germany. “Elif’s Boys” gives a deep and immediate insight into the traumas and strengths of a post-migrant family fighting for cohesion.
