„Island Sightings“ depicts the performance of a visual watch. Pending the entry of an object into our range of view, we experience the effort it takes to see it, the „seeing“ of it. Every autumn hundreds of people gather on the remote Isles of Scilly, off the westernmost tip of England, to wait for rare birds and insects blown off course from their usual migration routes by sudden changes of weather. This film tracks the actions of the ""Birders"", and other people on the islands who still rely on visual observation. The observers - in suspended animation - are being observed by us, while also functioning as part of a universal ""instruction manual"".
