Ganz ohne Lärm und Laut

“Without Noise or Sound” is a conversation about dying, between me and my grandmother Helga. Helga has cancer. This will probably be her last year. I will visit her more often now and take my camera with me. We ask each other a really big question: how can we die at ease? The inner contradiction is clear: Helga wants to go peacefully and accept death, but there is also the innate instinct of self-preservation. Can we really just switch this off when the moment comes? And there is still time before that, isn’t there? The film compiles snapshots of the process of letting go and saying goodbye—between the living room and the nursing home, the last steps, the last poems, the last breaths. All without commotion.
