Fragments of Michelangelo Antonioni’s 'L’Avventura' are reworked into abstract collages by isolating surface structures as well as their movements. Textures of clothing, curtains and other surfaces are masked, overlaid and shaped into pulsating fields and patterns, resulting in distortions and interferences. These abstract structures are reintroduced into Antonioni‘s film, obliterating and at the same time condensing its narration of disappearance, dissolution and memory. Interacting with images and sequences from the film the abstract patterns and isolated details gain narrative meaning. Hallucination, memory images and dreamlike perception are evoked through a rhythmic montage that develops a hypnotic and seductive pull.
