DEMO

A dusty grey square scattered with broken glass, pebbles and remnants of a rubber surface, surrounded by walls, turns into a silver screen. The place’s name, DEMO, is only a remnant, too, of a utopian idea. The late 1960s concept ""Demonstrativbauvorhaben"" (English: ""demonstrative building project"") for family friendly cohabitation in a large housing estate in Western Germany has always been detached from the actual circumstances and from the reality of migration and work. The film begins with speaking walls. The cinematic third wall is being broken when the first child appears. The space and the protagonists introduce .themselves. We are witnesses to a chemical reaction of light and time on film. A new meaning of DEMO is being produced.
