EXPLORE A NO-GO AREA. GET TO KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOURS. TREAT A STRANGER. For 3 years, 4 white middle-class people document their attempt to break out of their daily life’s comfort zones. As an inspiration, I gave them playful tasks and questions and asked them to do the same with me so that we could all play together. A self- and cinematic experience. All of us document our experiences ourselves with a camcorder. The result is a documentary film play. Filmed in a point-of-view perspective reminiscent of computer games, the world of the German middle class turns into an analogue playing field. Mental and physical barriers that separate the protagonists from the realities of others become audible and visible: Fears of your neighbours, strangers, places and situations. In this film, the players which are also the protagonists direct themselves. The game tasks that were developed over the course of 3 years are available online as an open-source game so that the audience can start playing as well. The REAL LIFE ADVENTURE GAME is an on-going project.
