A documentary about playing the part of Jesus and the portrayal of the divine in passion plays in Germany and the US. How does it feel to personify the Son of God? Is it even possible to portray God? What does an actor go through when he dies on the cross? “Der Sohn Gottes—The Son of God” is both a documentary and a passion film. The story of the passion—from the arrival in Jerusalem, to death on the cross and the resurrection—is recounted and reconstructed through interviews with actors who have played Jesus and directors of passion plays.
