A collective animation film
What happens when climate change becomes not just a topic, but a shared language? De Rerum Natura: A Climate Change is a collaborative animated film exploring the multiple dimensions—intimate, local, surreal, and global—of life in a world shaped by the climate crisis.
The project was created during an inter-university seminar, where students from different institutions worked together to produce a single, interconnected film. Its structure is inspired by the Dadaist game exquisite corpse: each team began with a soundtrack—be it a dialogue, a voice-over, or a textured soundscape—reflecting a story, situation, or emotional response to climate change. These soundtracks were then exchanged, passed from one group to another, triggering visual interpretations and unexpected narrative connections. Throughout the process, participants communicated and collaborated across distances—via regular videoconferences and ongoing peer-to-peer exchanges. The result is a mosaic of voices and visions, stitched together by shared concerns and collective imagination. De Rerum Natura: A Climate Change is about climate change—and also about co-creation, about learning to listen, respond, and build meaning together. This film stands as a testament to the creative potential of distributed authorship, and to the urgency of rethinking our relationship with the planet.
