تَناثُر البحر (Scattered Sea)

Moving between magical realism, performance and documentary, Scattered Sea explores the question of how we can connect with each other across borders in a multi-relationally diverse world with its cracks of entangled historical traumas, a tense, fractured present, power imbalances and a deep longing for belonging.   17 performers from North Africa and Europe interact and relate to each other, creating hybrid spaces of action, intertwining, allowing closeness yet maintaining distance. Symbols are traced and deconstructed, space is negotiated, questioned, drawn with sand. Ruins, a garden and streets are roamed. Boundaries are felt, blurred and redrawn. The search for remnants transforms into the placing, scattering of traces – daring fragile beginnings.   Scattered Sea was filmed in Morocco, Malta and Germany. It forms a fragmentary associative attempt to dissect and interweave concepts and symbols in context of interculturality, territoriality and de/coloniality, specifically touching upon tensions between the MENA region and Europe.
