Tasks and function

Racism is a social phenomenon that the Academy of Media Arts Cologne also wants to address. The Anti-Discrimination Officer supports university students and staff, professors and lecturers in the event of discrimination.

As the KHM's anti-discrimination officer

.... I am available for:

  • All status groups at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne who are affected by discrimination under the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG).

The initial consultation

  • The initial consultation is a first point of contact for low-threshold advice for those affected by discrimination. The first step is to get to know each other and clarify the situation. Depending on your concerns, needs and requirements, we will then decide together how to proceed.  The initial consultation is a protected space. Everything that is said is subject to a duty of confidentiality and may only be passed on with the consent of the person concerned.

Referral counseling

  • Referral counseling is a referral to external counseling centers. For concrete support in conflict resolution discussions between the person affected and the person who is the source of the discrimination, I will refer the person affected to external counseling centers and counselors upon request. A list of people who offer discrimination-sensitive mediation is still being compiled.

... I offer support

  • In the event of violations of personal rights, in particular due to discriminatory behavior based on racist attributions or because of ethnic origin, gender / gender identity, religion or belief, disability, chronic illness, age or sexual identity.
  • specific acute and past racist incidents.
  • mental and physical health problems caused by racism  and other forms of discrimination.
  • on individual strategies for action, empowerment or other concerns in connection with racism and discrimination.
  • for fears and worries with a focus on experiences of discrimination.

Other tasks include

  • Documenting cases of discrimination and identifying risks of discrimination.
  • The implementation and planning of discrimination-sensitive events at the KHM.
  • Concept development, coordination and organization of further and advanced training at the KHM.
  • Networking with internal/external stakeholders and institutionalizing joint measures to protect against discrimination.
  • Raising awareness of the issues, empowerment and public relations work in the context of anti-discrimination and awareness.
  • Development and implementation of guidelines and regulations with regard to the General Equal Treatment Act.
  • Establishment of an AGG complaints office.

A regular exchange takes place in various committees such as the Anti-Discrimination Advisory Board. If you are unsure, you can contact me at any time and I will be happy to help you find the right contact person.
