Script

Scripts? Who writes screenplays? Voluntarily? You sit around somewhere and don't see anyone for days. Until they show up behind you at the exact moment you have the crucial idea. If you do come out, you're threatened with a storm of phrases: Content is king. TV is a writers medium. Torture your main character. To write is to re-write. Film loves contrasts. No problem - no story ...

Even if 2-3 of them are right: It usually doesn't help you at that moment. And then all that coffee. According to a non-representative survey, the life expectancy of screenwriters is significantly lower than that of the Tasmanian devil (and he doesn't get very old anyway).

For all those who have made it this far: That wasn't the whole truth. The often overlooked advantages of screenwriting: You don't see people for days at work, you get to drink all the coffee you want and you can torture your main character to your heart's content without going to jail for it. And the bit about the bag devil is of course a lie.

The screenwriting course at the KHM is free. And it is systematic: there are basic seminars on all forms of storytelling. There are courses on the theory of writing and practical exercises on dramaturgy and script development. It's about forms and formats, working methods, collaborations, rights issues, history and the future.

You are free to decide what the books should or will be for: short or long feature films. Television films, series, serials. Part or first step of a documentary. An animation. Border crossings to other, new forms. For your own direction or that of a fellow student. Written alone or in a team.

The forms of the courses are also diverse (and constantly changing) - exercise, specialist seminar, colloquium - the boundaries are sometimes fluid. At the KHM, the script can be the goal. The project. A possible diploma thesis. Or an escapade in the artistic discovery process. An experiment. Or a step on the way to other goals (usually a film).

You determine the path.
