Klaus Schöning, born 1936. A director, author, producer, curator and researcher of Ars Acustica as Ars Intermedia. Studied dramatics, literature, philosophy and journalism. Until 2001 head of the Studio Acoustic Art established by him at WDR Cologne. Artistic director of international media-art festivals, performances and symposia. Writer in Residence, various teaching positions, lectures and workshops at universities, Goethe Institutes, media academies in Europe, North and South America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand. Author of a considerable number of texts and radio programs on media issues, CD publications, anthologies on the aesthetics and archaeology of ars acustica and hoerspiel. 1983 he was awarded the Berliner Kunstpreis, Art Prize Film/Radio/TV. 1993 the Media Art Prize of the Centre for Art and Media, ZKM Karlsruhe. 2004 the Honour Award of the German Sound Art Prize. Honorary Professor of the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne.
