Augenarbeit 2: Landscape Cinema

Landschaften sind materiell existierende Formationen, die unser Leben, Denken, Fühlen prägen und mitstrukturieren und radikale Projektionsflächen, die das Kino seit seinen Anfängen mit immer anderen Vorstellungen verbindet, bespielt und selbst mit hervorbringt. Sie erzählen von historischen Ablagerungen, gesellschaftlichen Strukturen und geopolitischen Verhältnissen (und sind darin politisch) und fungieren zugleich als Spiegel einer wie auch immer gearteten Innerlichkeit. In dem Seminar werden wir uns Filme aus den Gattungen des Spielfilms, Dokumentarfilms und Experimentalfilms gemeinsam ansehen, diese verhandeln und mit theoretischen Überlegungen in ein Verhältnis setzen, um der Frage, was das eigentlich ist — eine Landschaft? — entlang ihrer filmischen Konstruktionen nachzugehen. Ausgangspunkt aller Überlegungen und zu zeichnender Verbindungen sind die Filme selbst, ergänzt um ausgewählte Texte sowie das aktive, involvierte, kritische und leidenschaftliche Sprechen über sie.

Landscapes are materially existing formations that shape and co-structure our lives, thoughts, and feelings, and they are radical projection surfaces that cinema, since its beginnings, has always connected with, played upon, and itself helped to create. They tell of historical deposits, social structures and geopolitical conditions (and are political in this) and at the same time function as mirrors of an inwardness of whatever kind. In this seminar we will look at films from the genres of feature film, documentary film and experimental film together, discuss them and relate them to theoretical considerations in order to answer the question of what that actually is - a landscape? - along its cinematic constructions. Starting point of all considerations and connections to be drawn are the films themselves, supplemented by selected texts as well as the active, involved, critical and passionate speaking about them.
