China, a country that was characterised by agriculture for centuries, has transformed itself into an industrial and economic world power in the last few decades with rapid urbanisation. Two billion square meters of new building is completed in China every year, using up to 40% of the world’s cement and steel supplies. With spectacular imagery, the documentary film “Man Made Place” shows how two Chinese cities in particular, Yumen and Kangbashi, have developed and continue to develop during this wave of urbanisation.
