Starting as an experiment, I drove in a circle along the borders of Germany, got lost on purpose in random places and waited for the first stranger to walk by, whose story I recorded, no matter what the person wanted to talk about. I assembled the different stories much like a video graphic version of a surrealist collage that consisted of the connected personal myths and memories of strangers. If there is such thing as a demilitarization of the syntax of film, I think I was interested in that. Making a film that wasn't finished or closed, without just one development in one direction. Leaving space for the things that can't be said or shown, listening, trying not to be a filmmaker, but to make a film the way one would take a walk, improvising while you're going along, not fully knowing what you're doing. I wanted to work with the simplest und ""poorest"" means of production. Above all, I was looking for a reason to encounter people, I wouldn't have met any other way, to record the linguistic illustration of their imagination in their stories, to get closer to the strange and hallucinatory functioning of memories and the sparks of singular, beautiful and at the same time universal truths of inventions and experiences and the way these are transformed into history.
