Shadow Fugue

“Awake to breathe, Breathe to merge into light. Stand to confront with own shadow, like to hear the sound from tranquil mirror.” “Shadow Fugue” is a light-sound apparatus which is responsive with the state of the own body’s physical tension and change of light. Like breathing, the winding and loosing wires, which are fastened between motors and the wall, let plexiglass rods tighten and loosen. Through its movement when these plexiglass rods are bended to the wall and touch the surface of the wall, the bright ray of light and at an instant the black stripe of a shadow emerge - depending from where it is observed. The emerging light phenomenon by this various kinetic movements reminds the observer of organic and symptomatic gestures. It needs the self-regulation process as the movement is measured real-time by infrared light sensors. The sound moves after the rotation of motors and the own threads of sounds are weaved by tension. Like 4 voices of Fugue, it is real-time generated by the breathing of “Shadow Fugue”. In this work, the shadow is not the place where the light is unreached but the interface where the light starts to travel again
