Ateliers / Labore / Open Spaces

Begleitet wird die zentrale Diplomausstellung von Präsentationen in Laboren und Ateliers, wie dem Animationsstudio, dem Klanglabor, Klangatelier, exMediaLab und [ ] ground zero, sowie einem neuen Projekt des Access Collective. Wir laden außerdem ein zu Lesungen im Garten der Bibliothek / Mediathek im Overstolzenhaus und freuen uns, bereits die fünfte Ausgabe der von Studierenden herausgegebenen Anthologie des Literarischen Schreibens präsentieren zu können, dieses Jahr zum Thema Mehrsprachigkeit. Als Prolog ist in Verbindung mit der allgemeinen KHM-Open-Plakatierung ein Augmented-Reality-Projekt aus der Animation in der Stadt zu erleben.

Darüber hinaus sind in OPEN SPACE / OPEN SCREEN / OPEN SOUND-Formaten aktuelle studentische Projekte, Prozesse, Skizzen und Experimente in verschiedensten medialen Ausdrucksformen zu sehen.

Metaphor and Metamorphosis – The Poetics of Animation: A class to discuss and explore the parallels between Animation and Poetry: metaphor, suggestion, symbolism, lyrical narrative structure, rhythm and metamorphosis were some of our areas of investigation.

Metabook: Students received a sketch book – the Metabook - to accompany them throughout the semester. An anchor to the present moment, it helps them being aware of the poetic in their experience, whilst documenting their creative process through it.

MODELBAUWERKSTATT: Ursprünglich als Ausdehnung des Animationsstudios fungierend, ist die Modellbauwerkstatt inzwischen zu einem Atelier geworden, in dem nun auch andere Disziplinen einen Platz gefunden haben. Der feste Kern dieses Raumes besteht aus vier Studierenden der KHM (Saioa Fischer Abaigar, Julia Jesionek, Juho Lee und Agneta Politikaite), die sich nahezu täglich hier einfinden, um ihren Projekten nachzugehen, sich auszutauschen und gegenseitig zu unterstützen. Im Rahmen des Rundgangs geben sie Einblicke in Projekte mit Animationen, Malereien und Zeichnungen, die sich dort im Arbeitsprozess befinden.

The showcase focuses on contemporary artistic positions that use new technologies and their social potential. Experimental Informatics explores this intersection, showcasing works that use code, electronics, natural language processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. [ ] ground zero is not only intended to discuss artistic works but also as a platform for exchanging ideas and developing new projects.

Access Collective

Access Collective is presenting a new work using KHM's new swimming pool, situated in the basement next to the Aula. The act of team practice is shown as an underground utopian praxis of resistance. The collective training body hurts. It is vulnerable. Breathing in synchronicity, it doggedly continues to strive for perfect output in our shared situation of deficiency. Preparing for things to come, adapting, touching the ground, paying attention to what is, never projecting, it is asking the question: Are we allowed to demand from the system something that already exists in us?

"Unsynced Parking Lot" offers the visitors an audio guide with a mono headphone and a map at the parking place in Filzengraben 8-10, in front of Klangatelier during the KHM Rundgang 2022. Through this audio guide, the visitors can create an individual acoustic state in each situation by pressing the buttons on the audio player and exploring the space through the recorded and drawn information.
“Hello. This is the audio guide for «Unsynced Parking Lot». From now, you can imagine yourself as a single independent vehicle in this parking lot. Your body becomes a vehicle with wheels. So here is a parking lot where you can move freely on your own and stop at a certain point as if you are parking. Here, you don't have to think about how limited spaces you are allowed to park. Which means that if you live in an apartment in a building that includes this parking lot, you don't have to think about how many bedrooms you have in your apartment. Because in general the parking space will be allocated according to the number of bedrooms. On the map behind this audio player that you are listening to now, you can find each spot with numbers. You can find these spots in real space and stay there to play the marked number in this audio player. Ivonne Sheen Mogollón, "The imagination of a Lake", 2022, Sound installation, 30 min: A lake is a slowly exchanging reservoir of water that does not communicate with the ocean. It is a body of water with restless depths. I share fragments of a diary I wrote before a failed love encounter that was supposed to happen in Titicaca Lake, as the sounds that gurgle from my affective memory, like currents of illusions and disillusions, which encountered themselves with currents from my earlier life and my present one. The murmur and vibrations of intimate memory. I worked the sound mainly with delay and feedback to create a fragmentation and constant repetition, evoking a sensation inspired in the experiences of reminiscence, anxiety and daydreaming.

Farah Wind, "Zweifel", 2022, Fensteröffnung, Vivak, Holz, Audio, 120 x 130 cm

Was können wir sicher wissen? Unsere Wahrnehmung könnte auch einer Simulation unterliegen, Traumgebilde entwickeln. In der Aufklärung legt René Descartes mit seinem Nachdenken über den Zweifel einen Grundstein für den erkenntnistheoretischen Diskurs. Heute, im digitalen Zeitalter, gewinnt der Zweifel erneut an Aktualität und Relevanz. Algorithmen lassen keinen Raum für Zweifel. Überhaupt scheint der Zweifel verpönt. Wann zweifelt der virtuelle Mensch? Eines steht fest: alles anzuzweifeln führt zu Skeptizismus. Gleichzeitig stellt der Zweifel eine Gegenposition zu erstarrten Überzeugungen dar, er kann Reflexionsräume öffnen und eine treibende Kraft sein, um ein System zu modifizieren.

Die Installation „Zweifel“ soll dazu anregen, diesen Zustand in seiner Ambivalenz neu zu denken.

Helin Sezen Korkmaz and Juan Sebastian Cortez, "Unconsolable Memories" (8 channel amplifier, 8 transducers, 8 plates: wood, plastic, steel and aluminium) is a 8 channel sound installation where instead of loudspeakers, 8 solids of various materialities take up the role of amplifying the sounds. The installation explores the paths that our memories go through from being moments to becoming embedded in the ground of our subconscious. This transition creates a sense of desorientation and rarely makes us question the real resources of the sounds inside our head. In the sonic piece, the blurry line between memory and reality is being sculpted in time and the uncertainty in distinguishing between them is being narrated.
The sonic space that the installation frames is vibrated through sounds recorded during the seminar "systematic interactions" and are snippets of soundscapes and soil recordings. The installation invites the listener to go couple of steps under the ground and be part of this immersive piece while experiencing the wandering of memories.
